Paul's
Page::
Paul’s 65 mustang
purchased for $500 from the 2nd
owner. It had sat in a carport for 9
yrs—multiple age problems, lots of rust,
etc—we had it towed to our garage.
Original 289 actually started!—but
wouldn’t go very well. New carb,
starter, fuel pump, oil switch, etc.,
etc, now it runs.
After new brakes and
lines we drove it as is for 2 months.
Then the real project began: weld
patches on shock towers, new front
shocks and springs, cut out battery tray
(and old coffee can/bondo repair job),
cut cancer from fenders and wheel wells,
learn to weld body panels, remove
interior, sweep, take out garbage.

Cut, weld, grind, bondo, sand, repeat. For a couple
months. Thanks to Grandpa Russ who left
us with his mechanics’ and body work
tools! And the internet mustang parts
guy.

Another late night
in the shop . . . sanding, cleaning,
paint prep. Finally, we fire the
quality control guy and just put some
paint on it. An ’04 Ford color—french
blue.

Final
Step: Assemble In Reverse Order
Oh yeah, put in new
gas tank, adjust hood, carpet, those
seats we re-covered (with new
headrests), new headliner, seat belts
w/shoulder strap, adjust hood, repaint
some of the interior, fix all the
lights, get new stereo & speakers,
adjust hood, and put some tools & jumper
cables in the trunk.
